Terms of Elastic Fund Matching 1.1.0
Last updated October 20th, 2025.
Period & Procedure of Recurrence
This Funding Process recurs weekly.
- Each enrollment sets a maximum that can be matched each week. A $1 enrollment is $1 every seven days, about $4 per mont
- The cycle recurs on the last moment of each Sunday on Earth (midnight UTC -12:00 Baker Island, in the middle of the Pacific).
- At the end of each period, Levels are re-built using remaining Enrollments.
- Canceled Enrollments will not renew. However, funds that were already participating in matching will remain locked up until the outcome of the current cycle is known, after which any unmatched funds will be returned to being available and may be refunded.
Enrolled ➛ Matching ➛ Matched
Funds within the process exist in three states:
- Enrolled - Available funds may be entered into this Funding Process, making them Enrolled.
- Matching - When Fragments of that enrollment are inserted into Levels and awaiting other Contributor's Fragments, they are Matching.
- Matched - After a Level Triggers, its Matching Fragments become Matched.
Once matched, funds will be Disbursed according to the Stream's Social Decision process. Enrolled funds that do not match may become Available again if the Enrollment is pending cancellation.
Enrollment Decomposition
Whole enrollments do not match directly. Instead, your Enrollment amount is first decomposed into power-of-two components ("Fragments") for matching. For example, if your enrollment is $27, your Enrollment will be broken into $16, $8, $2, and $1 Fragments. The process is identical to breaking down a number before representing it in binary.
Fragment Partial Matching
Each fragment is a power-of-two. If a fragment cannot be fully inserted, we will instead begin matching it at a lesser power of two. A $16 fragment can match at $16, $8, $4, $2, or $1.
Sequential Matching
When each fragment becomes fully matched, we will insert and begin matching the next fragments.
Descending Order
Fragments are matched in order from largest to smallest.
Upgrade Matching
A fragment that is partially matched may be simultaneously matching at a higher amount. It is said to be "upgrading".
Levels
During insertion, Fragments from many Contributors are grouped together into Levels that match one specific amount. An $8 level only coordinates fragments that are fully or partially matched or being matched at $8.
Ordered and Exclusive
Levels are added in order by powers of two, beginning at $1 and subsequent levels enumerating $2, $4, $8 and so on. Only one level of each amount exists. Each new level matches fragments at twice the amount of the previous level.
Thresholds
Each Level can accumulate matching Fragments until the sum of already Committed ("Matched") and matching Fragments exceeds a threshold. If this threshold is reached, the Level has "Triggered".
Triggering
Triggering is how matching funds turn into matched funds. When any level accumulates enough matching funds to reach its current threshold:
- All Levels simultaneously convert all Matching Fragments into Matched.
- All Levels set their next threshold to double their post-trigger matched amount.
- Partially matched fragments will begin matching at higher levels if possible.
- Fully matched fragments will have their successors inserted if there are any.
Matched funds will Disburse to Creators at the end of the Recurring Period.
Relations Between Levels
Levels are only able to match funds within certain ranges relative to the funds in lower levels and otherwise may not receive any fragments.
At Most Equal
A level can only trigger if doing so will result in it having no more than the total matched & matching of the level immediately below. It also may receive no insertions until the total of the level below increases.
Creation Conditions
A new level can only be created when its threshold can match at least two users' fragments. A $128 level will thus only begin with a trigger at $256 or when lower levels trigger.
Minimum Matched
Streams must have over $1000 USD matched before funds will be awarded. Streams that have less than $1000 will not match any funds and will instead roll over to the next cycle until they reach the $1000 minimum.
